Fury Road ended up being one of the best action movies of all time, and I was hyped up to read the prequel comics. While I definitely enjoyed myself, I feel that these could have been better. So, the comics are told with a framing devise of an old storyteller teaching children after the events of fury road. The story teller is honestly one of the best parts of the comic, thanks to his tattoo work. You'll see what I mean. Anyway, the stories focuses on a different character, one for nux, one for Immortan Joe, One for Furiosa, Two issues for Max, and short issue showing how the War Rig was built. The war rig and Max stories are the best, featuring the best character work. Immortan Joe got the short end of the stick. While his story did help explain the whole 'religion' aspect of his army, a lot of the tactics used don't make a lot of sense. Overall, while I liked the comic, I wouldn't pay this much money for it.

This collection gives a brief bit of back story to important characters in Fury Road. Though they aren't technically given their own stories, the background of the wives is flashed out quite a bit, as are their characters, in Furiosa's story. In fact, I would say the part dedicated to Furiosa focuses quite a bit more on the wives, being the story of how Furiosa met them and came to the decision to help free them. The story behind Immortan Joe is appropriately mythologized, shedding all the more light on the man and how he came to be. Even the war rig gets a back story. The thing I so loved about Fury Road was the subtlety of its social commentary. Despite what a lot of people said about it being "feminist propaganda" it didn't let it's politics get in the way of the movie being just another Mad Max movie. It's commentary was woven into the fabric of the hours long car cashes and explosions and murder and chaos (THE CHAOS) and didn't overshadow any of that. This is exactly my favorite part of this comic collection is: the social commentary is there, woven through the stories and driving the incredible imagery. That commentary is very much more overt than in the movie due to the narrative style--a history keeper is relaying these stories to the children of the citadel, leaving room for moral lessons and take aways which are relevant and pertinent to the reader's reality. The only thing that knocks this down from five stars to four for me is the fact that I really wanted to have more story about Nux and I would have loved more on Furiosa as well. I understand why Nux's story was the way it is but damn it... I love me some Nux and I wanted more.

I read many of the reviews before I ordered this, and was a little concerned by so many negative ones. But being a true Mad Max fan I ordered and read it the day it arrived. I have to say that I don't know why there were so many negatives because I think it's excellent, and recommend it to any mad Max fan. I found it gave considerable insight ito the events in Fury Road, which was what it was said to do.I also recall one saying he doubted George miller even had anything to do with it, other than his name. I totally disagree with that, as it is obvious he was involved, and I expect approved it before release. After all, it is a direct reflection of his creation.Bottom line this is well worth the money, and I found many answers to what went on before Fury Road . This is a comic/graphic novel and not a novel/book. It actually lends itself to some spin off movies that could be great!

I bought this 2 years ago, and it's still fun to read. Fans of the newest movie (or franchise, in general) will enjoy these tales. The framing device is that the audience is listening to the stories being told by the History Keepers....in the tradition of an oral history. I think this really ads to the entire franchise: why don't the Mad Max stories all line-up in continuity? Because they are oral histories being passed down by the elders of an apocalypse world. This item is likely best for big fans of the films: people who loved it and want to know more. The book answers questions about the characters: their histories and motivations. What do I most like? That these stories come from director George Martin's storyboards and character treatments, and Martin (and his crew) aided in the execution of this book. It's not just some auxiliary fan-fiction.

If you're a true Mad Max: Fury Road aka MM:FR fan you'll get the title of my review. I can't speak for how well someone who is not a MM:FR fan will witness this collection of comics, but if you're more than a mediocre MM:FR fan I think you'll enjoy it more than making the war boys V8 sign with your hands out the window of your car while driving down the freeway steering with your knees. It gives some backstory to some of the characters and locations in MM:FR, and for that I think it's worth it's weight in aqua cola. If you're truly looking to ride eternal, shiny and chrome, just go ahead and get it.

A few people have asked me if I thought the new Max (Tom Hardy) is better than Mel Gibson's Max, and, while I think nobody can do what Gibson does, Hardy is just as good, I believe, as Gibson in his own way. I've seen hardy in a lot of movies now and he's a versatile actor, who commands your attention. Overall, this is a top-shelf movie and Hardy delivers. Theron too is awesome! And the supporting actors are all incredible as well. Absolutely one of the best movies I've seen in years. Top Shelf!!!

This was great for learning a little more detail about the characters behind Mad Max, end even answered a few questions that I presumed were story inconsistencies within the series. Perhaps when the movie was made, they were indeed plot holes, but the big did a good job at providing answers. The overly saturated color scheme was cool for the most part, but a few frames were difficult to make out what actually I was looking at. Overall, worth it for a fan, but not too much to get overly excited about.

Great supplemental story to the movie. The art is suitable. The backstory of Immortan joe really separates his character from Toecutter in the original series. Also answered how Max got a new vehicle after losing it time and time again.
