I was looking for a book that would teach me how to ask the right questions to OTHER people, not myself.I’ll save your money telling you the whole book in one sentence - if you have a conflict with someone, ask yourself: do you want to be right or do you want to keep peace with that person? The right answer - you want to keep peace. That’s all!The book is very boring, 99% of it about how awesome this book is, and how it’s going to change your life. And just 1% about the “wisdom†(that’s mentioned above) repeated hundreds of times.
Good concept but painful delivery. The story telling felt exaggerated and contrived. Was difficult to stay focused. I would not recommend to a friend.
If you like to learn quickly by just hearing the facts this book is not for you. I am struggling to get through it only because I think the content could actually be worthwhile but it is buried in a bunch of dialogue as if I am reading a teenage fiction novel. It is so frustrating to try to find the information buried underneath a really boring story. Just my personal preference, I am sure others like that style but it is not for me. I was getting so upset I had to put the book down to write a review. I will update if I ever make it to the end to let you know if it was worth it.
The book has a few good points, but they are absolutely buried in a fluffy narrative style. I don't care if you are stirring your coffee or removing your gasses to think. I don't need to see you sitting there pondering your approach to management. I want hard-hitting and effective narrative. Way too self-indulgent. I guess the publisher demanded a page minimum. Can't recommend because it just takes way too long to get value out of this book.
Was beneficial to me as an executive working with subordinates who need further development. Had to turn around the expectation that the staff work was substandard to expecting that they're still doing their best. This book helped me frame questions that elicited engagement and thought. It proved successful.
This is one of the most amazing books you will ever read. It will help not only your personal but your professional life as well. Truly, a great read for young and old alike!
I enjoyed this book. I’ve read it twice & have referenced it many times. This book changed how I interact with people. I took Marilee’s Chief Question Office Training in Baltimore in the Fall of 2016.
This book was an easy read and done in a way that connected with my goal of remaining curious in situations where not doing so prevents getting to a viable solution and building trust. Practical ways to move into learner mode were presented and have worked in real life. I have recommended this book to several others and they have found it helpful as well.
